For Teens
Welcome to the Teen Services Department
We offer a range of services and programs throughout the year for teens ages 13 to 18.
We connect youth with free resources such as library materials, creative programs, websites and databases, and volunteer opportunities. Through the power of information, imagination, and ideas, the Traphene Hickman Library strives to inspire the teens of our community.
Teen Programs

Math Tutoring
Math Tutoring is offered at the library during the school year in partnership with ChoolBus Tutoring. This program is for grades 6th-12th grade. Come to tutoring to discuss homework and concepts that you need help with. Visit the library's calendar to see dates and times for math tutoring.
Mental Health Resources
LGBT National Youth Talk-Line
Free and Confidential peer support for the LGBTQ and questioning community ages 25 and younger. Provides a safe space that is anonymous and confidential where young callers can speak on many different issues and concerns.

National Eating Disorders Association
Largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. NEDA supports individuals and families affected by eating disorders, and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures, and access to quality care.

National Runaway Safeline
The mission of the National Runaway Safeline (NRS) is to keep America's runaway, homeless and at-risk youth safe and off the streets. Suicide & Crisis Prevention Lifeline
The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones.

Teen Line
Teen Line is an anonymous, nonjudgmental space for youth. Through the hotline, teens can access personal peer-to-peer support from highly trained teens supervised by adult mental health professionals.

The Trevor Project
The Trevor Project is the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. Provides LGBTQ youth with 24/7 crisis counseling via phone, text, and chat.

TrevorSpace
TrevorSpace is an affirming, online community for LGBTQ young people between the ages of 13 to 24 years old. With over 400,000 members across the globe, you can explore your identity, get advice, find support, and make friends in a moderated community intentionally designed for you.

New Drivers
Driving Tests
Learn when to yield, where to park, and what all those road signs mean! This free Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) practice test covers the most important traffic signs and their meanings.

TAYSHA's Reading List
TAYSHAS takes its name from the Caddo Indian word meaning "friends or allies.". The goal of the TAYSHAS reading list is to motivate young adults to become lifelong readers and to participate in the community of readers in Texas.

The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6 to 12 to explore a variety of current books.

Waste Management Scholarship Application
The Traphene Hickman Library is very proud to announce that Waste Management is sponsoring two $2,000 scholarships available to 2025 high school graduates with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who want to further their education, whether it is at a university, junior college or trade school. The graduates must attend Cedar Hill ISD and/or be a resident of the City of Cedar Hill. The scholarship is coordinated by the Traphene Hickman Library and award recipients will be invited to a Cedar Hill City Council meeting to be presented with the scholarship.
It is important that the application form be completed in its entirety. This application must be accompanied by:
- Official high school transcript
- Two letters of recommendation-at least one must be from the school principal, counselor, or teacher.
- An essay that is no more than two pages double-spaced describing the role you can play in helping the sustainability of your community.
